ABOUT THIS BOOK: JOHN DOWLAND: 35 Pieces for Piano Solo, arranged from lute (53 pages), is a diverse and satisfying collection of 35 selected lute works arranged for solo piano by the most prolific and greatest of all lute composers, John Dowland (1563-1626). The book consists of two halves, Parts 1 and 2, consisting of 21 pieces in their original versions followed by 14 pieces in enhanced, concert arrangements. The original versions range from Grades 3-8 while the concert arrangements range from Grades 5-10. Out of the 14 concert arrangements, 11 of them also appear in Part 1 in their simpler, original versions, which provides a learning opportunity for pianists interested in making their own creative arrangements. The pieces in both Parts 1 and 2 are not organized in progressive order of difficulty, hence, a helpful chart listing all 35 pieces in order of difficulty is listed in the Preface. Fingerings are given for all 35 pieces, and the 21 original versions bear no editorial markings except fingerings. This collection is ideal for piano students, teachers, and concert artists who seek fresh, new, and exciting material for study and performance.
